Who does what¶
Who this is for: everyone — find your role (user, admin or hoster).
This wiki is written for three roles. Find yours and start there — you only need the pages for your role.
| Role | You are… | Start at |
|---|---|---|
| User | Watching or reading captions | Reading captions |
| Admin (event producer) | Running a captioning session for an event | Your first event |
| Hoster (sysadmin) | Deploying and maintaining the software | Choose a deployment |
Users¶
You watch captions — on a screen, a stream overlay, or your phone. You do not install or run anything: someone sends you a link. If you want translated captions, your link may already be set up for your language.
Read Reading captions.
Admins (event producers)¶
You run the session. You open the capture page, choose the microphone, operate the editor, create rooms and tokens, build the overlay links your audience uses, and save the transcript afterwards. You work in a browser; you do not touch the server.
Start with Your first captions, then Your first event.
Hosters (sysadmins)¶
You install and maintain the stack: deploy the services, manage the domain and TLS, control who can reach what, and take backups. There are two supported ways to run it:
- Co-op Cloud — recommended for real deployments.
- Docker Compose — good for development, local evaluation and testing.
See Choose a deployment to pick one.
One stack, shared
All three roles use the same running services. The hoster deploys them once; admins run sessions on top; users just watch.
